Itzan, the best ARTIST at one and a half years old
Many parents are interested in getting their children involved in some activity related to the Performing Arts, but they often don't know how to go about it.
They usually go for the easy and comfortable way.
When children start the school year, they are enrolled in extracurricular activities and the problem is solved.
In this post, you will see how one and a half year olds are able to get into Performing Arts at home with Canguros Artistas.
Getting ready to start the class
What can an 18-month-old child do?
Pronunciation of basic words such as: Mommy, daddy, water...
Begin to run, so he/she can stumble easily.
Stand upright without help.
Able to turn the pages of a book with ease.
Canguros Artistas work with theater and dance, mixing them with small arts and crafts, make-up, costumes...
But... How do we teach all these skills to a child of a year and a half?
THEATER: The most important thing for a good actor is to live experiences and get to know the world. At this age, children are very curious, so they always want to learn new things.
At Canguros Artistas, we bet on choosing themes that may interest them, such as:
Superheroes: like Batman.
Adventures: like Discovering the Amazon rainforest or the North Pole.
Movies: like The Lion King.
My favorite theme is Animals so I can use their sounds as I can use sounds. Based on the chosen theme, there are activities and games for the children to acquire knowledge and have a great time.
Learning the animal’s sounds.
DANCE: As we mentioned before, children are able to walk, stand up and sit on their own at this age.
They are eager to move forward and discover how far they can go.
Before they become excellent dancers, they need to improve their motor skills:
Fine Motor Skills: This is the ability to perform movements using small muscles of their hands, wrists and fingers.
We perform activities related to the theme. In this case, we played Animal Rescue or Animal Hide and Seek.
Playing “Animal Rescue”
Itzan playing “Animal Hide And Seek”
Grass Motor Skill: This is the ability to perform movements using large muscles of the body that are combined in a coordinated manner in activities such as walking, running, crawling... We played Jumping Over Obstacles.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES
Video clips: Educational video clips related to the theme of the session.
Watching a video about cats.
Styling: Children love to dress up and there are many ways to carry out this activity: with costumes, make-up, masks... We chose to stick animal stickers in our faces.
We love our cat’s stickers!
It is always a good idea to put the stickers in our faces!
In conclusion, through our sessions we achieve:
Learn the sounds of the animals (Theatre)
Work on our motor skills to improve our movement (Dance)
Have fun learning from our living room.
